The SAAMBR club has a rich history as a foundation club for the Model Aeronautical Association Queensland (MAAQ) and is one of the largest clubs in Australia.
The inaugural club was formalised around the 1960’s as the Brisbane Aeronautical Radio Control Society (BARCS) and flew from a number of locations over the next 40 years most notably at Hickey Park (off Webster Rd, Stafford) and at a field off Rogan Rd (Taigum).
In the mid 90’s a new home for the club was made available by the late Sid Bray with a long-term lease for an area of his property at Griffin, what is now our Sid Bray field. With the move to the Pine Rivers area, the club also had a change of name to Pine Rivers Aero Modelers Society (PRAMS)
On 14 November 2009 the PRAMS club merged with the Wamuran Model Airplane Club and became Sports Aeromodellers Association Moreton Bay Region (SAAMBR) . This marked a new era for the club with the development of the Jim Gibson field as our future home.
